Is Guideline’s prime plan right for you?

Jeff Rosenberger, PhD

Guideline offers two great plans for managing your 401(k)—Startup and Prime.

The good news is that with both plans you get Guideline’s full-service 401(k), which includes:

  • No startup costs
  • No porfolio fees
  • An easy-to-use online platform
  • Employee self-onboarding
  • Safe Harbor plans, and so much more

Here’s a full breakdown of the ins and outs of what each plan entails.

Startup is a great option for smaller companies who use one of our payroll partners and want to keep their 401(k) plans simple.

If you’re a larger company or want to offer new comparability profit sharing, then Prime is your plan. Prime supports the evolving needs of your growing business with personalized, dedicated service.

What makes Prime different?

Prime offers everything in the Startup plan, plus four additional benefits and features:

New Comparability Profit Sharing: New comparability profit sharing allows companies to contribute more money to the 401(k) accounts of certain groups of employees over others. With new comparability, owners and employees who are older in age and have higher salaries may be able to receive higher profit sharing allocations than younger employees with lower salaries.

If you’re an owner and have a higher income than many of your employees, new comparability can significantly increase your tax and retirement savings.

A dedicated Account Manager: With Prime, you also get a 401(k) representative dedicated to your account—one point of contact for you and your team’s needs. Your dedicated account manager understands 401(k) plans and your unique business needs.

Dedicated support is a great option for larger companies with more complex needs, require custom reporting, and have more participants. A specialist at your side offers immediate, custom support, as well as more peace-of-mind knowing you don’t have to go it alone.

Faster service with priority support: As a Prime customer, you not only get a dedicated account manager, but you also get faster, more responsive service through Priority Support. To ensure speedy answers and resolutions, the support team gives your inquiries highest priority.

Support for any payroll provider: Don’t use one of our integrated payroll providers? No problem. As a Prime customer we can support any payroll provider you use. Do note however that Guideline does not serve as the 3(16) plan administrator for self-service plans.

Who is Prime right for?

Your organization is a large or growing company: With scale comes complexity. Prime’s personalized, dedicated service ensures that your company gets the support needed to run a robust retirement program for a large team.

You want new comparability profit sharing: Prime includes new comparability profit sharing. If you are an owner who wants to maximize retirement savings through new comparability, Prime may be your plan.

You don’t use one of our integrated payroll partners: If you use a payroll provider that doesn’t integrate with Guideline, you must use Prime.

You are looking for fast, personalized service: Managing a retirement plan is confusing and complicated. But, you don’t have to go it alone. With Prime, you can get a 401(k) specialist who knows your business, program and needs—partnering with you at every step of the way.

How much is Prime?

We pride ourself on simple, transparent pricing. Like Startup, all the offerings in Prime come included in one low flat monthly fee: $99 base plus $8 per employee.*
